As a Ward 5 candidate in 2021, I committed to making public safety a top priority. I heard from residents about concerns regarding crime, traffic safety, and the need for stronger community security.

As your Ward 5 City Councillor, I have taken concrete steps to enhance safety across the community. From advocating for critical infrastructure improvements to collaborating with the Calgary Police Commission, I have been instrumental in pushing for stronger security measures.

My initiatives include launching community safety forums focused on crime prevention and addressing traffic safety concerns. A notable success was the Savanna public safety forum, which led to a 95% reduction in social disorder, with many plaza businesses reporting significant improvements. Additionally, I spearheaded an aggressive campaign against illegal signage, resulting in the removal of over 7,000 signs. This effort has significantly reduced visual pollution while improving safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.

To further engage with law enforcement and ensure community concerns are heard, I regularly go on ride-alongs with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) to discuss issues firsthand and work on solutions together. Additionally, I have strongly supported police funding and voted against police budget cuts, ensuring that our officers have the necessary resources to protect our community effectively.

Looking ahead, I am taking community engagement a step further by door-knocking with CPS officers to hear directly from residents about their safety concerns and work on collaborative solutions. Public safety is not just about enforcement—it’s also about addressing the root causes of crime and disorder. Many safety concerns stem from issues related to mental health, addiction, and homelessness, which require a compassionate and proactive approach.

By working with health professionals, outreach teams, and law enforcement, I am pushing for more funding for community-based intervention programs that help individuals in distress before situations escalate into safety risks.

I will continue advocating for enhanced public safety measures, working to expand crime prevention initiatives, and ensuring that our communities remain secure and welcoming.
