Calgary Transit Operator Safety Shields
Following a serious assault on a Calgary Transit operator last year, I advocated for stronger protections for frontline transit workers, including funding for new operator safety shields and additional safety measures across the transit system. I recently had the opportunity to visit Calgary Transit and see these shields being piloted firsthand, representing an important step toward creating a safer workplace for the people who keep our city moving every day. What this means for Ward 5
Ward 5 residents rely on Calgary Transit every day to get to work, school, appointments, recreation facilities, and destinations across the city. Many of the transit routes serving our communities are operated by frontline staff who deserve a safe and secure work environment. Investments in operator safety help strengthen the reliability of the transit system by supporting the people who keep it running. When operators feel safe at work, it contributes to a more positive experience for everyone who uses transit. As Ward 5 continues to grow and more residents depend on public transportation, ensuring the safety and well-being of Calgary Transit operators remains an important part of building a transit system that is reliable, welcoming, and sustainable for the future. I will continue advocating for practical measures that improve safety for frontline workers while supporting a high-quality transit service that residents can depend on every day.
