A healthy community thrives on accessible, well-maintained green spaces, and as Ward 5 City Councillor, I have made it a priority to enhance our parks and public spaces to better serve residents.

As a ward 5 candidate, I heard firsthand from the community that Ward 5 lacks the necessary amenities to fully unlock the potential of its parks and green spaces. That’s why I have worked tirelessly to improve and expand these spaces to make them more welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable.

One of my key initiatives is the Notice of Motion to expand the tree canopy in Ward 5. With one of the lowest tree coverages in the city, this investment is critical for:

  • Improving air quality and providing much-needed shade in our neighborhoods.
  • Reducing urban heat islands, making our outdoor spaces more comfortable, especially during extreme weather.
  • Enhancing the beauty and environmental resilience of our community.

Beyond tree planting, my efforts to strengthen our green spaces include:

  • Increasing park seating by installing benches and shade structures.
  • Developing inclusive playgrounds, ensuring children of all abilities can play together.
  • Enhancing park maintenance to keep our green spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable.
  • Activating sports in parks to encourage community engagement and promote active lifestyles.

Organizing regular community clean-up days and tree planting events will engage residents of all ages in hands-on activities that strengthen our connection to these vital spaces. Together, we can cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility, ensuring that our parks are not only beautiful but also well-loved and well-maintained for generations. By championing these improvements, I am working to ensure that families in Ward 5 have access to safe, enjoyable, and well-equipped recreational spaces for years to come. This is about building a community that prioritizes health, inclusion, and sustainability, and I will continue to push for the investments needed to make Ward 5 greener and more vibrant.
